Hermeneutics

The Bible is best interpreted and understood in a plain, normal, literal sense, within its historical context, recognizing and acknowledging the use of figurative language where it is obvious. If questions arise over the interpretation of Scripture, the elders including the pastors, after due consideration, study, and prayer, will determine the interpretation by which the church will be governed (Acts 15:1-31).

Creation

God is the Creator and Sustainer of everything that exists. The nature of the creation is due to the direct miraculous power of God. The origin of the universe, the origin of life, the origin of all kinds of living things, and the origin of humans cannot be explained adequately apart from the sovereign exercise of God’s power (Genesis 1-2; Colossians 1:15-17; Hebrews 1:2-3).

Sanctity of Human Life

We repudiate the destruction of human life through abortion on demand, infanticide, or euthanasia as unbiblical and contrary to God’s will. Life is precious and a gift from God. He determines its quality and duration (Psalm 139). While the Bible teaches the sanctity of life, it also teaches God’s generous compassion and forgiveness to all who seek it (Isaiah 43:25-26; Daniel 9:9; Ephesians 1:7).

Biblical Marriage

Biblical marriage consists only of a faithful union between one male and one female. Midvalley Bible Church facilities and personnel will only be involved with marriage ceremonies and related activities that comply with the above definition. Biblical marriage is the only legitimate and acceptable context for a sexual relationship (Genesis 2:24-25; Romans 1:24-27; 1 Corinthians 6:15-20; 7:3-5; Ephesians 5:22-33; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8).

Child Protection

Midvalley Bible Church seeks to maintain standards that protect children from all harm. Everyone involved in ministry to children shall adhere to child protection policies as outlined in Midvalley Bible Church policies, including submission to a background investigation.

Doctrinal and Lifestyle Purity

In order to hold a leadership or ministry position a person must agree to abide by the doctrine and core values of this church. A person is not qualified for leadership or ministry if he or she is engaged in sexual immorality including adultery, homosexuality, drunkenness, illegal drug use, or an ongoing lifestyle not consistent with accepted biblical norms (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
