A Troubling Decision

Doug Hornok   -
I trust you are doing well and rejoicing in the wonderful snow and rain we are being given. We have prayed for this kind of winter and God is answering our prayers!
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is widely accepted as the most complete record of the English language ever assembled. According to an online source; “unlike typical language dictionaries, which only define words in terms of their current uses and meanings, the OED is an historical dictionary.” Additionally, it provides examples of synonyms, pronunciations and translations.
All of this makes last month’s decision by the editors of OED, which is considered by some to be the gold standard, to supplement the definition of woman troubling. The definition for a woman which is given as “an adult female human being,” is being supplemented with “an adult who lives and identifies as female though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.”
Who would have ever thought that we would now “define” a woman as a biological male who is now convinced that his real self, is a woman trapped in the wrong body.
That definition reflects the utter confusion about biological sex and gender that now proclaims itself as the truth within our society. What is happening is not merely a semantic game or the demand that we deny reality. It is the assertion of power by an elite few to take us down a road that has real world consequences and that undermine the very foundations of our culture. Under the banner of “inclusion” we are allowing a radical gender ideology to avoid debate, truth and reason.
As Christians we cannot allow this to happen. We must not cave on this issue and we must speak the truth in love. Gender is not something that can be chosen. It is an intentional gift from God that must be embraced with thanksgiving.
